Sand Island Campground

Camp on the banks of the San Juan River

Sand Island Campground is located in the Sand Island Recreation Area on the north bank of the San Juan River.  Sand Island is about 3 miles west of Bluff, Utah, on the south side of Highway 191.

The campground is open year round and features 23 campsites.  Fees are $15 per campsite per night and can accommodate up to 8 people and 2 cars (maximum).  Each campsite has a fire grate and a picnic table.  Campsites are available on a "first come, first served" basis.  Campers can self-register at Sand Island for a campsite.

Sand Island Recreation Area also has vault toilets, seasonal drinking water (usually available March - October) and a day-use area.  Additionally, you will find a boat ramp for the San Juan River.

Sand Island Recreation Area is also home to well-known petroglyph panels.  For more information, visit Sand Island Petroglyphs.

Group Campsites

There are two group campsites for large groups.

The group campsite (#24) is by the boat ramp and features picnic tables, a fire grate, and a shade structure.  You can reserve the group campsite in advance for groups of 15 to 25 people for a maximum of three days.  The group site is not available to be reserved on any holiday weekend during the river floating season (March - October).  You can reserve a group campsite at www.recreation.gov.

Nightly fees for the group campsite are $25 plus $2 per person.  Payment is due at the time you make the reservation.  You can also make a group campsite reservation by calling 435-587-1544.
